In the heart of Ladakh, high in the Indian Himalayas, the ancient village of Phuktsey is being brought back to life through a remarkable community-led restoration initiative.
More than the preservation of an exceptional architectural heritage, this project aims to safeguard local culture, revive traditional knowledge and craftsmanship, and create new opportunities for future generations. By transforming the old village into a vibrant cultural and artistic centre, the initiative promotes sustainable development rooted in local identity, collective memory, and community participation.
Phuktsey stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, demonstrating how heritage can become a source of inspiration, renewal, and hope for the future.
On the occasion of the inauguration of this ambitious project, we are delighted to present the exhibition Writing Peace, a UNESCO programme of action for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence, initiated by Professor Eric Cattelain, who will be present to mark this special occasion.
The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the role of writing, dialogue, and cultural exchange in fostering mutual understanding and building lasting peace among communities and nations.
